The management of I&M Bank Limited on Thursday donated Rwf 4.5 million toward food and maintenance of a house belonging to a Genocide survivor, Caritas Mutsindarwejo, a resident of Rwintashya, Ngoma District.

Donated in line with the 23rd commemoration of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, the money is expected to help connect water and power to the survivor’s house as well as procure her other personal effects.

Robbin Bailstow, the bank’s Managing Director, said the bank stands with those who lost their loved ones during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and pledged more support to other needy survivors towards recovery process.

He said, "Reference to President Kagame’s, commemoration message, to remember is a must. Survivors may have lost their families but should still remember they have not lost their country.’’

He added that I&M Bank is committed to help improve Genocide survivors’ welfare. ‘‘We will keep supporting them accordingly, to keep contributing in the country’s rebuilding process.”

The function was organised in partnership with AEGIS Trust and Ibuka, an umbrella for Genocide survivors.

Raymond Habimana, Ibuka president in Rukumbeli Sector, talked of the miserable life that Mutsindarwejo had gone through, including enduring mental health complications.

He thanked I&M Bank for their support.

Mutsindarwejo, 66, who is currently living with her son and granddaughter, thanked the bank for its support, which she said will improve their livelihood.

"I was told that my house was going to be renovated two weeks ago and took shelter at my neighbor’s in the meantime. I have no words to express how grateful I am,” she said.
