Handball league title hopefuls APR have opened a four-point gap on top of the league table after overwhelming lowly Ecole Secondaire Urumuri 51-18 on Sunday at Birambo ground in Karongi district.
Following the win, in the only game played over the weekend, the Rwanda Cup and Heroes’ Day tournament reigning champions climbed to 34 points, four ahead of their archrivals and reigning league champions Police, who have however played two games less. Former Police star Jean Paul Muhawenayo was the game’s overall top scorer netting 10 goals to guide his side to victory.
APR, who are seeking to end the eight-year league title drought, have lost one game this season, which came at the hands of Police in their first-round meeting. Police are bidding to win their fourth consecutive league title.
To achieve the goals, APR coach Anaclet Bagirishya insists they must win all their remaining six games that include a clash against Police.
