APR basketball club captain Parfait Ishimwe has warned his teammates against any form of complacency when they host league rivals Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centre-South (IPRC-South) on Saturday at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.

With the league title a distant dream for the two teams, both still harbour high hopes of at least qualifying for the playoffs. IPRC-South are the reigning playoffs champions but have been inconsistent this season.

Cliff Owour’s APR are in the fifth place with 16 points, just one point ahead Charles Mushumba’s IPRC-South.

APR were stunned by United Generation Basketball (UGB) 95-90 in the last game while IPRC-South lost narrowly 75-72 against defending champions and league leaders Patriots, last weekend.

"The loss against UGB affected our ambitions for this season, especially in terms of challenging for the league title, it was our fourth defeat and if you compare to the fact that Patriots (league leaders) have lost only once, it makes catching them quite impossible,” admitted Ishimwe.

He added, "However, we have to fight now for a place in the playoff, which calls for finishing in the top four and with IPRC-South having lost their previous game, I think it will be a tough game for us and we have to be ready for the challenge.”

IPRC-South have lost five games this season, which include a first round clash against APR, who defeated them 69-64 in Huye.

The league will continue on Sunday when eighth-placed Rusizi host second-placed Rwanda Energy Group (REG) in Rusizi, while winless Cercle Sportif de Kigali (CSK) will be up against United Generation Basketball (UGB) at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.
