After finishing tenth at the just concluded Africa Club Championships in Tunisia, APR women volleyball club have turned their focus on winning this year’s national league title.

Head coach Viateur Sibomana says his team has gained experience of winning the big games ahead of Sunday’s clash against defending champions, Rwanda Revenue Authority, which would give them a four-point advantage at the top of the table.

"We need to give our best in this year to win the title and represent Rwanda in next year’s Africa Club Championships again,” said Sibomana, whose team replaced RRA in Tunisia after the tax-collectors failed to make the trip due to financial constraints.

He noted that, "It was a good experience in Africa Club Championship and next year, if we qualify, we will try to finish in the top four.”

APR lead the table with 23 points after nine games, one ahead of RRA, who have one game in hand. St Aloys de Rwamagana are third with 19 points while Ruhango High School are in fourth with 11 points.

Meanwhile, Tunisian side, Carthage defeated Shams from Egypt in epic tiebreaker 3-2 (16-25, 25-17, 26-24, 20-25, 15-11) to win the 2017 Women’s African Club Championship final for the first time in their history.
