RE: "RDF steps up fight against armyworm” (The New Times, April 21). Rwandans are evidently enjoying the fruits of good governance. It is surprising to see soldiers carrying fumigation pumps on their backs spraying pesticide instead of guns. This shall forever leave the footprints of love in the hearts of citizens who were not sure if they will harvest this season.

Mind you, the fall armyworm is affecting many farmers across the sub-Saharan region, and what is worrying is whether the pests may be spreading by way of air. It is still clear really. I am not sure if the same response that we are seeing in Rwanda has happened elsewhere in the region. Nonetheless, bottom line is that the Government of Rwanda cares about its people.

The response is laudable because it will reduce the likelihood of hunger (as a result of the pest). Caution is always better and cheaper than cure.

In Rwanda, RDF is a symbol of unity and patriotism. What they are doing for the country is invaluable; they deserve a standing ovation and support.
