Handball league title hopefuls APR retained the top seat after beating regular rivals on Saturday at Kimisagara ground.

The reigning Rwanda Cup champions defeated the Kimisagara based side 38-27 to go to 31 points in 11 games and maintained a one-point lead against their traditional archrivals Police.

Emmanuel Murwanashyaka was the game’s overall best scorer netting a total of 10 goals to guide Anaclet Bagirishya’s side to the crucial victory.

The win implied that the military side have beaten Nyakabanda over the two encounters this season following a 36-21 win in the first round.

APR who made significant signings before the start of this season are bidding to end an eight year long title drought.

In another match that also took place at Kimisagara ground, reigning champions Police overwhelmed University of Rwanda, College of Arts and Social Sciences (UR CASS) 65-17 to keep pressure on APR.

Police’s Zacharie Tuyishime was the star of the game as he individually contributed 14 goals to inspire Antoine Ntabanganyimana’s side to victory.

The three-time league champions have 30 points but have however played a game less and stand a chance to reclaim the top seat once they win their game in hand. editorial@newtimes.co.rw
