Mourners yesterday took part in a walk to remember the victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Nyanza, Kicukiro.

Most of the victims here were killed after the UN withdrew its peacekeepers from the former ETO-Kicukiro (now IPRC-Kigali) compound – where the Tutsi had taken refugee on April 11, 1994. Over 2000 people were killed in a subsequent attack by the Interahamwe militia.

Speaker of Parliament Donatille Mukabalisa lights a fire for a night vigil at Nyanza Genocide memorial in Kicukiro District, the final resting place for 11,000 victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
