Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC) yesterday donated Rwf50 million to Agaciro Development Fund.

James Sano, the chief executive of WASAC, said the donation was a contribution from both the institution and the employees.

"We feel we have achieved something great as we had given ourselves a target of contributing to this development fund every year. This is part of our contribution to building self-reliance, and we are glad our employees took it up and made contributions,” he said.

Sano said WASAC employees raised Rwf22 million and the institution contributed the remaining Rwf28 million, adding that the gesture would be a continuous undertaking for WASAC.

Jack Kayonga, the chief executive of Agaciro Development Fund, lauded WASAC for the contribution, saying that the move indicates the spirit of Rwandan people.

"We are happy that WASAC has taken the first step to approach us and contribute to this development fund. What is more exciting is that the employees themselves took part in this process. It is a sign of the value that Rwandans have in building their country,” he said.

Agaciro Development Fund was established to strengthen Rwanda’s self-resilience in times of adverse economic conditions and, according to Kayonga, about Rwf43 billion has been contributed to the Fund so far.

Kayonga said part of this was raised from Rwandans and friends of Rwanda while the other part was the sizeable returns from invested funds.

"After investing some of the funds, we produced the returns totaling to Rwf8 billion, and the Rwf35 billion was contributed by Rwandans and friends of Rwanda. We are continuing to invest the funds in different activities,” he said.
