Attacking midfielder Héritier Nzinga Luvumbu was the lone scorer as Rayon Sports registered a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Gorilla FC at Kigali Pelé Stadium on Friday, January 19, to close the gap at the top of the Primus National League table.

The DR Congo international fired a long range strike from the free kick in the 43rd minute to score the goal which was enough to seal three points for the Blues.

Rayon Sports came into the match looking to return to winning ways, having failed to win a single match in their previous three outings including a 2-1 loss to Gasogi United on January 12.

South African fitness coach Ayabonga Lebista was again on the Blues touchline assuming interim role of head coach after Muhamed Wade was relieved of his duties over the past week due to a string of poor results.

Rayon dominated the game in both halves, creating numerous chances that could have resulted in goals but Gorilla FC remained resilient, avoiding conceding more goals.

The win helped the team close the gap at the top of the standings with 30 points, three points shy of leaders APR FC who have played to games less.
