RE: "MPs raise concerns over growing settlement pressure on arable land” (The New Times, March 6).

Another issue to urgently look at is the acquisition of land by foreigners in an environment where land is scarce, which partly makes land acquisition speculative and very expensive, mainly in Kigali and the surrounding areas.

Why shouldn’t we emulate the policies of countries like Kenya and Ethiopia where no foreigner can own land, unless it is for the purpose of making a big investment? We may safeguard and dedicate our small land to Rwandans, and authorising foreigners’ land acquisition only for specified economic purpose.
