Newly appointed Amavubi head coach Antoine Hey jetted in the country on Thursday night and is expected to start work on Monday, according to the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) vice president, Vedaste Kayiranga.

Speaking to Saturday Sport yesterday, Kayiranga said that the German tactician will sign a two-year contract on Monday morning and will be unveiled to the media before he starts work.

"We will give all the details about the national team coach on Monday after he has signed the contract, but one thing I can confirm is that he will begin work immediately,” said Kayiranga.

Hey’s first task will be to lead Rwanda against Tanzania in the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) second qualification round due in July—the finals tournament will be staged in Kenya. Rwanda hosted last year’s edition and reached the quarter-finals under Northern Irishman Johnny McKinstry.

The first leg is scheduled to be played between July 14-16 in Dar es Salaam before the return leg in Kigali on the weekend of July 21-23.

The appointment of Hey comes weeks after the Rwanda Football Federation and their German counterparts signed a two-year partnership, which will include, among others, training of young Rwandan players and coaches.

The winner between Rwanda and Tanzania will take on Uganda.

Hey also will have a mountain to climb in the qualifiers for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon qualifiers. Rwanda was drawn in Group H alongside Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea and Central Africa.
