Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) has received a Toyota Land Cruiser worth Rwf52 million that was part of the promises from President Paul Kagame to Team Rwanda following their historic success at the 2014 Tour du Rwanda.

The vehicle handover ceremony took place on Thursday at Amahoro National Stadium and was presided over by the Minister in the President’s Office Venantie Tugireyezu and graced by the Minister of Sports and Culture, Julienne Uwacu.

"We are very grateful to receive this support from the president, as you know our national team is always competing in international competition and it has always been a burden in hiring cars to transport the team and their tools to and from the airport, so we are very pleased,” said and FERWACY president Aimable Bayingana after receiving the car.

In 2014, after Valens Ndayisenga become the first Rwandan to win Tour du Rwanda since become part of UCI African road race tour, President Kagame hosted the team at his office and pledged to support the first growing sport.

Among the pledges that he made included world class bikes, the car and permanent lease of the premises of Africa Rising Cycling Center (ARCC), Home of Team Rwanda, located in Musanze district.

Months after his pledge, 18 road bikes and eight time trial bikes were given to Team Rwanda—the bikes are a similar type of bikes that were used by British side, Team Sky to race to the 2012, 2013 and 2016 Tour de France.

The permanent lease of ARCC is in its final phases, according to Bayingana.
