Eritrean international rider Meron Hagos Teshome yet again did what he does best to claim the fifth stage of the ongoing Tour of Cameroon; his second so far as Team Rwanda’s Bonaventure Uwizeyimana clinched the fourth place. The 108-kilometre race from Douala to Bonamoussadi before returning to Douala might be the most gruesome stage as a total of 29 riders touched the finish in a sprint each posting a total time of 2 hours, 44 minutes and one second. However, it was Bike Aid’s Teshome who emerged the overall winner followed by stage-four winner Salaheddine Mraouni from Morocco while Breewel Jeroen from Global Cycling Team of The Netherlands became third followed by Uwizeyimana.
Uwizeyimana has formerly featured for Dimension Data for Qhubeka. This was Teshome’s second stage after he took the third stage from Mbanga to Limbe. Meanwhile three other Team Rwanda riders finished in the sprint using the same time as Teshome and these include Jean Claude Uwizeye (22), Jean Paul René Ukiniwabo (23) and Ephrem Tuyishimire (28). Valens Ndayisenga finished in the 33rd place, just 12 seconds behind the sprint while Jean Bosco Nsengimana came in the 51st place clocking 2 hours 48 minutes and 45 seconds, a total of four minutes and 44 seconds behind the sprint. Teshome’s team mate Holler Nikodemus retains the yellow jersey after the five stages, having used so far, a total of 13 hours 14 minutes and 37 seconds and is closely followed Mraouni who has posted 13h15'34'. Team Rwanda captain, Valens Ndayisenga is the best ranked of the group coming in the eighth place with 13 hours 17 minutes and 31 seconds and he is followed by his compatriots Jean Paul René Ukiniwabo and Jean-Claude Uwizeye in the ninth and tenth place respectively. Today riders will be racing the stage six; Douala - Kribi (157km), the longest race of the eight-day annual event and is scheduled to start at 12pm.
