Fiba-Africa Club Championships

Quarter-finals
Primero vs APR
Djoliba  vs Desportivo
KPA       vs First Bank
ABC       vs CSA

No one knows it better than Kavedzija Veceslav (APR coach) that today is the defining moment for APR’s campaign in the 14th Fiba-Africa Women Club Championships.

The Rwandan giants are scheduled to face famed Primero de Agosto in one of four quarter-final games at Nyayo stadium. If history is anything to go by, then the Angolans, who fell short in last year’s edition which was staged in Mozambique, are absolute favorites after manifesting their title credentials in style by winning all their group matches.

Drawn in Group A, Primero progressed to the quarter-finals unscathed. The Angolans at times even watered down highly hyped sides like Nigeria’s First Bank and ABC of Ivory Coast. On the other hand, APR, playing in their maiden championship doesn’t have much to lose.

Primero’s impressive and enviable unbeaten record at the group stage coupled with their rich history in the championship make them outright favourites but Cliff Owuor, one of the most celebrated coaches in Rwandan basketball believes APR should play their game.

"I believe APR already deserves lots of credit for reaching the quarter-finals on their championship debut. So all they have to do is go out and enjoy themselves on the court,” Owuor said.

In the other quarter-final ties, defending champions Desportivo entertain Djoliba of Mali, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) face Nigeria’s First Bank while Ivory Coast’s ABC and CSA clash.
