Rwanda Revenue Authority’s (RRA) women volleyball club defeated Ruhango High School and St Joseph yesterday in straight sets to increase their chances of winning a record-extending 7th league title and fifth in a row.

Founded in 2009, RRA won the league in 2010 and 2011 before APR claimed it in 2012, but the tax collectors’ side has dominated the women league since 2013, under different coaches, including Jean Luc Ndayikengurukiye, Christophe Mudahinyuka and currently, Jean de Dieu Masumbuko, who led them to last year’s title.

Masumbuko's team beat Ruhango in the fourth match of the league 3-0 (25-15, 25-12 and 25-20) before beating St Joseph 3-0 (25-7, 25-6 and 25-20) while hosts Ruhango overcame St Joseph 3-0.

Meanwhile, former champions APR beat St Aloys 3-1 and IPRC Kigali 3-0 while St Aloys won 3-0 against IPRC-Kigali 3-0—all matches were played at Amahoro Indoor.

After five rounds of matches, defending champions RRA lead the table with 19 points, one ahead of Viateur Sibomana’s APR with St Aloys occupying third position with 12 points.

Ruhango High School are fourth with 11 points while IPRC-Kigali have three points in fifth place and St. Joseph remain bottom without a point.
