Over 650 students are set to graduate today during the University of Kigali’s (UoK) second graduation ceremony to be held at Petit Stade in Remera.

In an interview yesterday, Professor UdaiLal Paliwal, the university’s vice chancellor, said the students will graduate with Bachelors and Masters degrees, and postgraduate diplomas in education, which he said is one of the flagship programmes to improve quality education for teachers in the country.

Paliwal said the students set to graduate have been properly prepared not just for the national job market but for the international market as well.

"This is a special moment for us. We are sure that our students have had great experience during their time here. We have also trained them to not just become job-seekers, but more importantly, job creators to contribute to the country’s development,” he said.

Those who graduated from University of Kigali’s maiden graduation ceremony in 2015 were 139.

Paliwal said students graduating this year are expected to make great contributions in their communities.

He also explained that UoK is a special long-term project that’s trying to position itself as an institution of higher learning in the region focused on facilitating learning to help students realise their potential, highlighting promoting entrepreneurship as one of their key objectives.

About the university

University of Kigali started its operations in October, 2013.

The University has three faculties; the faculty of Business Management and Economics, the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology.

The University has international students from Nigeria, Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
