Preps are underway for Rwanda’s first ever Crying Games competitions with the finals due to take place at the Kigali Convention Centre.

The competition kicked off with a school tour of three round auditions on March 4. The selected contestants will be given a chance to win over Rwf100, 000 at Kigali Convention Centre at the finals on March 25.

The competition will target the youth with the aim of ‘promoting creativity and prove to people that they can earn money out of crying’, according to Hudson Manzi, organiser of the competition.

"The first stage will involve telling a sad story to make the audience emotional, as a way of encouraging the audience that their story is not the worst, and that so many people go through worse conditions.

"The second stage of shedding tears will be for two to three minutes to judge the level of creativity, where the participants will stand a chance to participate in the acting auditions to promote talent. The third stage will be about imitating animals cry and this is aimed testing the participants’ knowledge on certain animals,” he said.

The best 10 competitors will walk away with cash prizes while the rest will also win goodies from U5 Enterprises.

The crying games competition is organised by U5 Enterprises Rwanda, a youth-oriented social enterprise, with the aim of promoting arts and entertainment in Rwanda and fun at the same time.
