Rayon Sports extended their lead at the top of the Azam Rwanda Premier League to four points after beating Marines 2-1 at Kigali Stadium, on Sunday.
Burundian midfielder Pierrot Kwizera scored the opening goal for the Blues on the 36th minute. The strike took the Burundi international’s goal tally this season to eight.
Rayon Sports doubled the lead from their new signing Abdoul Rwatubyaye, who scored his first goal for the club with a powerful header from Kwizera’s free-kick on the 53rd minute.
Ten minutes later, Marines pulled one goal back through former Police FC, AS Kigali and Amavubi striker Jimmy Mbaraga, who beat both defender Thierry Manzi and goalie Eric Ndayishimiye before slotting in an empty net.
It was a heated game for both sides which saw both coaches, Djuma Masudi (Rayon Sports) and Abdoul ‘Coka’ Karim, sent to the stands over misconduct on the touchline by central referee Claude Ishimwe, towards the end of the game.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Sunrise FC and bottom-placed Pepiniere played a goalless draw in Nyagatare, while Kirehe FC drew 1-1 against Etincelles at Umuganda Stadium, in Rubavu.
