AS Muhanga coach Abdul Mbarushimana is optimistic about bringing the Southern Province-based side back to the top-flight league next season as the club continue to dominate their pool in the second division.
The Muhanga District-sponsored side was relegated at the end of last season along with Rwamagana City FC and the two were replaced by Pepiniere and Kirehe FC.
But Mbarushimana’s team have since shown their intention of an immediate return to the Azam Rwanda Premier League after back to back wins and remain unbeaten after 12 rounds of matches.
On Saturday, AS Muhanga sent a chilling warning to their rivals after thrashing Nyagatare FC 11-0 to maintain their firm grip on top of Group A with 28 points after eight wins and four draws, plus a goal difference of 32.
They are joint top with Vision FC, who, however have an inferior goal difference of 15, while Rwamagana City FC are third with 24 points, one ahead of Sorwathe FC, in the fourth place.
"We are working hard and together, as a team, the target is one; to return to the first division next season,” said Mbarushimana after his on-form striker Yves Habimana netted six goals to take his tally for the season to 18 goals for the 2013 Peace Cup finalists.
Meanwhile, in Pool B, Miroplast FC defeated Esperance 4-0 at Mironko stadium to stay on top with 28 points, four points ahead of second-placed Heroes FC, who are level with Isonga FC in third place, while Rugende FC are fourth on 20 points.
