The second annual Urusaro International Women Film Festival, (UIWFF) kicks off this weekend with a red carpet party at Umubano Hotel.

The festival runs from March 4, and will bring together women from across Africa, Europe and Asia, to showcase their incredible talent in film.

The countries expected to take part in this year’s event are Chad, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Sudan, France and several Asian countries.

Poupoune Sesonga Kamikazi, the festival’s coordinator, said the event seeks to empower local and international women in cinema.

"The festival is here for women to prove that they have what it takes to compete in the film industry across the world,” says Kamikazi.

The opening day will be graced by established film personalities like filmmakers, directors, actors as well as script writers.

During the festival, 23 films from different countries, among which 15 are local and 8 foreign, will be screened and the best films awarded on the closing day of the festival.

The six-day festival will include workshops, film screenings, among other activities.

Special workshop sessions will be provided by the representative of International Organisation of French-speaking countries (OIF), Saouda Hussein, about how to pitch a film project.
