Azam Rwanda Premier League lowly side Gicumbi FC defeated defending champions APR 1-0 at Kicukiro Stadium on Wednesday.
Forward Suleiman Mudeyi scored the lone goal for the relegation battlers in the 53rd minute from a Jean de Dieu Figo Uwineza assist.
Meanwhile, Rayon Sports have reclaimed the top spot after beating Espoir 2-0 on Wednesday at Kigali Regional Stadium.
Rayon Sports’ goals came through Mustafa Nsengiyumva and Tidiane Koné in the 8th and 43rd minutes respectively.
The win takes the blues to 40 points, two ahead of rivals APR. And the former have played a game less.
APR’s defeat means that Gicumbi have collected 4 points from the military side this season with the teams having settled for a goalless draw in Gicumbi in the first round.
Rayon and Espoir also drew 0-0 in Rusizi in the first round.
Despite the surprise win, Gicumbi remain second from bottom with 11 points, while APR dropped to second place with 38 points.
