The first round of the 2017 National Rugby Championship has nearly come to an end with top contenders Thousand Hills and Rusizi Resilience Rugby Clubs topping the two Pools. Both sides will meet infinal in May this year.

In Kigali, defending Champions Thousand Hills currently top the Pool standing having won all three games played to accumulate 15 total points. Over the weekend, they thrashed Lion DE FER 26-7 at Gatenga.

Remera Buffaloes’ Rugby Club are second in the pool with 5 points having won one game and lost one in two games. Over the weekend, their third game against Kigali Sharks was suspended and they are eight points behind Thousand Hills.

Lion DE FER are third in this group with four points out of three games played. They won against Sharks 11-6 but lost to Buffaloes (28-0) and Thousand Hills (26-7). Sharks Rugby Club sit at the bottom of the table with one point.

In the other pool, Rusizi Resilience Rugby Club tops the standings with 14 points from three games. They have won all their games and earned two bonus points. Over the weekend, they thumped University of Rwanda-Huye Campus 21-0.

Last weekend, Muhanga Rugby Club beat Puma 13-5 to earn their second victory of the season. The Southern Province based team is second in this group with 9 points out of four games played. Puma is third without a point in two games.
