The Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) has advised individual motorists to always seek for authorisation of their operations through the right channels, directly from the head offices without going through illegal brokers some of whom are impostors that defraud them without delivering any service.

The advice follows complaints from motorists who claim that it takes a long time for the regulatory body to issue them authorisations, wasting a lot of time and resources in the process.

Addressing a press conference recently, the Head of Transport Department at RURA Emmanuel Asaba Katabarwa, noted that getting an operational authorisation does not end with paying license fee as there are other requirements that need to be met.

"Some cooperatives of motorcyclists are mismanaged while others are not registered, bogging their leaders and members from getting authorisations in time.  We are therefore working with key stakeholders in the public transport sector to ensure that there is proper timely acquisition of all the necessary requirements for timely authorisation. We are also working with Rwanda Cooperative Alliance to build capacities of cooperatives leaders and members to ensure their efficiency,” explained Engineer Katabarwa.

RURA regulates transportation of goods and persons in the three modes namely road, inland waterways and air transport.
