After eliminating South Sudan’s Al Wau Salaam in the preliminary round of this year’s Total CAF Confederation Cup, Rayon Sports head coach Djuma Masudi has said that the focus will now turn to their first-round tie against Onze Creatures of Mali.

Rayon Sports will play the first leg away to Onze Creatures on the weekend of March 10-12 before hosting the second leg the following weekend in Kigali.

The Peace Cup holders reached the first round following a 6-0 aggregate win over Al Wau Salaam on Sunday at Amahoro Stadium.

"What’s important now is the game against Onze Creatures, winning it would be a very good turning point. The coaching staff and all players are looking forward to the game, and we want to win it,” Masudi told Times Sport in an exclusive interview.

The Blues went into the second leg tie with a 4-0 goal advantage and sealed their qualification with a 2-0 win over the El Wau Salaam in the second leg.

Burundian import Pierrot Kwizera scored a stunning free-kick from 35 yards in the 26th minute while Malian striker Moussa Camara netted the second goal after nine minutes to give the ‘Blues’ a deserved victory into the first round.

Masudi urged his players to get ready for the tough task that lies ahead of them as they seek to maintain the perfect form in the local football league, which they are leading at the moment.

"We need to be ready for league and Confederation Cup matches, our ambition is to do well in both competitions and I hope with the time left for the first-round ties, we can prepare well,” he added

Rayon Sports are the only Rwandan club left in a continental competition after APR were knocked out of the champions league by Zambia’s Zanaco FC.
