APR and league debutants REG square off this evening in a highly anticipated national basketball championship clash at Amahoro stadium.

The game has a lot of meaning for both teams, it is an encounter pitting two league hopefuls and none of the two would want another setback at this particular point of the season.

Going into today’s clash, APR and REG stand in the second and third place, respectively, with 13 points apiece, having both won six games and lost one in their last seven league features.

Coached by former Espoir technician Jean Bahufite, REG will be looking to consolidate their status as serious contenders despite this being their debut season while Cliff Owuor’s APR are also keen to avoid another defeat after last weekend’s 76-84 upset at the hands of champions Patriots.

"We have two serious fixtures against APR tomorrow (today) and Espoir on Wednesday next week, winning both would be a big boost for us. We need to keep the momentum by consistently winning game after game because we have what it takes,” REG head coach Bahufite told Times Sport on Thursday.

In another game awaited by many basketball lovers today, the 2017 Heroes Cup winners IPRC- Kigali will be up against the 2015 league champions Espoir later in the evening, also at Amahoro stadium.

Both sides are on 12 points, having won five games and lost two this season.

Last year’s first runners-up IPRC- South will be hosting United Generation Basketball (UGB) club in Huye District.

Table leaders and defending champions Patriots are having a weekend off after securing two important victories against APR and CSK last weekend.
