Eastern Province-based side Kirehe Volleyball Club have set sights on winning this year’s Father Emmanuel Kayumba memorial tournament that will be played today (Saturday) and Sunday at Indatwa and Inkesha School (formerly Groupe Scolaire de Butare) and G.S Gatagara grounds in Huye District.

Kirehe, which lost last year’s final to IPRC-South, will be seeking to win their first trophy since the club was established three years ago.

According to the team manager, Aunick Mutumwinka, they are ready to win their first trophy. "We are in a good position to win this title. Last year we played in the final and did well but this year we are going for the title”

"We are going into this weekend’s games with an aim of winning. We will not change our mentality or approach. I am confident that the team can do it. The players have got a winning mentality. They have been doing well in training and league matches so I’m confident we will go for the title,” she said.

A total of 29 teams in men, women, youth and veteran categories will compete in the annual tournament.

The tournament is organised in memory of the late Father Kayumba, who passed away in 2009. He was instrumental in the growth of volleyball in Groupe Scolaire de Butare, which has, over the years, produced some of Rwanda’s best players in the sport.
