The number of male candidates that sat for the exams decreased by 2.8% compared to 1.5% decline for female candidates. The exams were carried out 9 to 18 November 2016.
During the commissioning of the exams, the State Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Isaac Munyakazi explained that the decrease was due to the government policy of encouraging more students to join vocational institutions.
Under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, students are encouraged to join soon as they finish the O’ level.
