National women volleyball league defending champions Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) have made a bright start in the league winning two games on the opening day of the season at St Joseph in Muhanga on Saturday.
In the opening match, Jean de Dieu Masumbuko’s team beat Ruhango High School 3-1 (25-15, 25-23, 25-18 and 25-12) and they went on to also defeat youthful side St Joseph 3-0, (25-13, 25-20 and 25-17) while Ruhango beat St Joseph 3-0 (25-14, 25-21 and 25-21).
"We are happy to win the first two matches. We have started well but we need to improve every game because the league is long and will be even tougher than last season,” said Masumbuko.
Meanwhile in men’s category, hosts Gisagara beat Kirehe 3-2 to go top of the table with 17 points after six games, ahead of IPRC-South, who were due to play against UNIK and REG on Sunday in Huye district.
Kirehe won the first two sets 25-21, 25-21 but Gisagara fought back to win the next two sets 25-17, 28-26 before taking the decisive fifth set 15-8.
