It will be an IPRC affair as IPRC-Kigali and Huye-based IPRC-South square off in the national basketball league on Saturday at Amahoro Indoor Stadium. The game starts at 1pm.
Meeting for the second time in a space of just over two weeks, IPRC-South will be seeking to make things right against Albert Buhake’s side.
The two sides met in Heroes’ Day tournament group stages and IPRC-Kigali won 73-57 before going on to win the tournament after defeating Espoir 76-65 in the title game last weekend, the club’s first trophy since its formation in 2014.
IPRC-Kigali are ranked 6th in the league standings with a 4:1 ratio. Only table leaders Espoir (5:2), Patriots (5:1) and APR (5:0) have a better win ratio. Buhake’s side will be seeking to win today’s game to keep the pressure on the top team.
"It’s never easy to play against IPRC-South, which makes Saturday’s game a massive one for both teams, but we want to win to keep our league title dream alive,” Buhake told Saturday Sport.
Star players Steve Havugintwari and Bruno Nyamwasa will lead IPRC-Kigali’s charge against Charles Mushumba’s IPRC- South side that will be led by point-guard Yesman Bushiri and Fabrice Rukundo.
Elsewhere, Jean Bahufite’s Rwanda Energy Group (REG) will be up against struggling United Generation Basketball Club (UGB) at the same venue, starting at 3pm while bottom side and still winless Cercle Sportif de Kigali (CSK) face title hopefuls APR at 5pm.
On Sunday, IPRC-Kigali will return to action locking horns with 30-Plus whereas league defending champions Patriots will entertain CSK at 5pm, both games will be played at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.
