Rwandans on Thursday night took part in an exciting films dialogue and the making of a short film dubbed, Movies Around the World.
Organised by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, Century Cinemas Kigali, Kwetu Film Institute Rwanda and Mill Valley Film Group, the official representatives of the Global Oscars Awards, the films dialogue took place at Century Cinemas Kigali and was part of the preparations for the 89th Oscars Awards Ceremony.
After the screening, famous American movie producer John Antonelli, from Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, interviewed the participants, who comprised of personalities from the media, creative economy and Government.
Rwanda was selected as one of the locations from where the crew will film the short documentary, which will be screened during the Oscars Awards on February 27.
Antonelli’s film documentary, Sam Cooke, whose production took him ten years to complete – as part of his tribute to the legendary singer – was screened for the first time in Africa, alongside other short films from Kwetu Film Institute’s Hillywood, that tell Rwandan stories.
According to the founder of Kwetu Film Institute, Eric Kabera, the initiative will serve as a great opportunity for Rwanda’s growing tourism sector and open new possibilities for the country’s creative film industry.
Producer Antonelli is on a world tour engaging key stakeholders about the film sector, particularly on the development and consumption of movies.
