Chillax Lounge: No better way to chill

The name says it all. If you are looking to chill, this would be the place. Perhaps my decision to visit on a Sunday afternoon was right on the money.

The name says it all. If you are looking to chill, this would be the place. Perhaps my decision to visit on a Sunday afternoon was right on the money.

A modern look with floor to ceiling windows that give one a panoramic view of the gardens, Chillax is surrounded by serenity. The furniture consists of cocktail tables and chairs, leather seats at the far end and a bar at the other end. Space is abundant here. It almost feels empty. Unlike Friday or Saturday nights where Chillax comes alive with music and revelers, Sundays provide a laid back atmosphere. One in which a guest is able to withdraw from daily life and watch kids play in the garden.

As I was the only guest at the time, the service was on point. If I wanted to, I could have sent three waiters to get me three different items. I was not busy at all. However, this should not take away the effort of my waitress who was fleet footed and full of cheer.

The drinks menu indicated that Bloody Mary cocktails were available. Imagine my disappointment yet again when my waiter sadly informed me that there was no tomato juice. My quest for a bloody Mary continues. I believe that establishments such as Chillax should have on stock all the ingredients for items they proudly display on their menu.

The food menu is Chinese through and through. My efforts of the previous night meant that I was not too keen to engage in a huge meal. The prices too were deterrent so I opted for crispy chicken wings and fries.

Indeed the chicken wings were crispy. And the portions enough to fill my stomach. I was not too enthusiastic about the onion rings but the distinct taste of these wings is one that will stay in my culinary memory for a long time. The fries were cut into a shape that was screaming we have a potato shaper in the kitchen! It was a nice touch though and I picked at them one by one with my bare fingers. They were crispy too, just the way I like them.

A fifteen minute wait for my wings was on point and allowed me to stem the effects of the previous night with a cold beer. I also noted that the parking lot was full of sleek cars, oddly with Ugandan registration plates. I wonder where these people were for as previously mentioned, I was the only diner in the lounge.

I can’t make a factual assessment on how good the service is as the lounge was not busy at all. From my observation, I can say that even when busy, the staff do make an effort.

Chillax is located in Nyarutarama, a stone’s throw away from the tennis club. At the moment, civil works are being carried out and this accounts for some noise and a compact parking lot that can’t take too many vehicles. Nevertheless, business continues as usual. If you are looking to create a hole in your wallet, please do visit this establishment. You might get value for your money.
