League title hopefuls Rayon Sports have a chance to rectify what didn’t go right when their 13-match unbeaten run was brought to an end at the hands of their bitter rivals APR FC just under two weeks ago.
The two bitter rivals come face to face today afternoon in another epic duel of the 2017 Heroes Cup match scheduled at Amahoro National Stadium. Kick-off is at 3:30pm.
The game comes after ten days when former champions Rayon Sports were beaten by defending league champions APR 1-0, in their league first round encounter hence losing the top spot they had claimed after match day three before reclaiming it last week at the expense of APR’s draw.
APR FC that finished the first round of the 2016/17 national football league in second spot with 34 points after drawing their match day 15 encounter against Bugesera FC, will be hoping to cement their supremacy by winning the historical encounter.
However, revenge will be on the minds of Rayon Sports following their recent disappointing loss that saw their unbeaten run this season end by a 1-0 reverse at the hands of their sworn enemies.
However, they seem to have gotten over that disappointing loss as they hammered SC Kiyovu 3-0 in match day 15 to take control of the league standings with 36 points.
Rayon Sports head coach Djuma Masudi told Times Sport that they have bigger ambitions in this game as they aim to revenge against their rivals.
"It will be unbearable to lose two games in a row and in a space of less than two weeks, that is why we are taking the match very seriously and it’s a good opportunity for my players to show what they are really capable of,” said Masudi.
The 2017 Heroes’ Cup edition is organized by the Chancellery for Heroes, National Orders and Decorations of Honour (CHENO) to mark this year’s Heroes’ Day celebrations scheduled today.
CHENO whose mission is to identify, thank, honour and celebrate the memory of Rwandan citizens or foreigners who distinguished themselves by acts of heroism and other acts of bravery also believes that the Hero’s Cup should be an annual event held every year.
The day is set to be celebrated under the theme: "Heroism is about making choices that fit us”.
