Rwanda international Jacques Tuyisenge has been appointed assistant captain for Kenya’s Premier League giants Gor Mahia FC.
Tuyisenge, who joined Gor Mahia in February 2016, was named assistant captain on Friday to deputise Musa Mohammed.
The 25-year old forward joined the record 15-time Kenya Premier League champions for a reported transfer fee of US$ 40,000 (about Rwf30 million) last year.
The move made him the second most expensive player involving a Rwandan side, behind Ernest Sugira, who was last year bought by DR Congo’s AS Vita Club from AS Kigali for US$100,000.
Despite a modest start to last season’s campaign, Gor Mahia moved up the table since the arrival of Tuyisenge, who scored 10 goals that helped his team finish in the second place with 54 points behind champions Tusker FC (61 points).
Following this impressive start, Tuyisenge, a former Police, SC Kiyovu and Etincelles FC striker, won the Soka Fans player of the Month Award after scoring 5 goals in 7 appearances.
With 10 goals under his belt, Tuyisenge was the fourth top scorer after Ulinzi Stars’ forward John Makwata (15 goals) and was nominated for 2016 KPL Player of the Year.
However, his side started the 2017 season rather slowly losing 2-1 last weekend to Thika United despite signing 14 new players that included Rwanda international Jean-Baptiste Mugiraneza, who joined from Tanzania’s Azam FC.
