Handball league title hopefuls APR overcame Nyakabanda on Saturday at Kimisagara ground to go joint top of the league alongside their bitter rivals and defending champions Police.

The reigning Rwanda Peace Cup champions were playing their second game of the season after resting on match-day two when Police opened a three-point gap after earning valuable forfeit points against UR-CASS with the latter having failed to show up at the match venue.

APR, guided by their new signing and former Police star Jean Paul Muhwaneyo, who netted seven goals, defeated Nyakabanda 36-21, a win that saw them join Police at the summit – each with six points after two games.

"We want to take each game at a time, we hope that our two games with Police will decide the championship, we have revamped our squad and hope this season we are ready for a silverware,” said APR coach Anaclet Bagirishya

In their first game, APR defeated University of Rwanda’s College of Arts and Social Sciences (UR-CASS) 58-20 while Nyakabanda beat UR’s College of Education (UR-CE) 36-29.

Meanwhile, the UR-CASS Vs UR-CE match that was scheduled to take place on Saturday was postponed until further notice.
