Past achievement and form will count for nothing today when the two finest sides in Rwandan cricket Challengers and Indorwa meet in the V.R NAIDU T20 tournament on Sunday at Kicukiro Cricket Oval.
Challengers, whose captain Srinath Vardhineni’s family are the tournament sponsors, are the overwhelming favorites after winning this tournament for a record four consecutive years.
They will be taking on Indorwa who will go into the game with revenge on their mind having lost in the final last season.
Srinath says Challengers will start the season looking to reproduce the performance of two years ago when they swept all local competitions—they went unbeaten for two years, 2014 and 2015.
He said, "Last season, we failed to perform to our full potential, managing to only defend V.R NAIDU T20 tournament out of three tournaments we had won the previous year.”
"We are determined to get back to our best this season and looking forward to winning everything although we expect tough competition from our rivals,” added the former Rwanda national team captain.
Ndorwa’s first bowler Eric Hirwa said that, "There is no need to fear Challengers; we have a quality team with lots of experience. We want to win this tournament this year to make make up for last year’s disappointment.”
