Rayon Sports fought their way back to the summit of the national football league standings with a 3-0 victory over 10-man SC Kiyovu on Friday at the Kigali Regional Stadium.
Mali international Mousa Camara scored the first goal in the 16th minute following a long range pass from Djaber Manishimwe.
Manishimwe netted the second goal in the 75th minute from a Pierrot Kwizera assist while Fabrice Mugheni Kakule netted the third, a stunning effort in the 87th minute, thanks to another assist from Manishimwe, who was named Man of the Match.
Manishimwe also struck the crossbar in the 10th minute while Camara also hit the crossbar with a strong header.
Rayon’s Pierrot Kwizera, Thierry Manzi and Nova Bayama were booked in the 35th, 41st and 64th minutes, respectively, while Mukamba Namasobwa saw red after getting two yellow cards in the 16th and 72nd minutes.
In the 33rd minute Burundi international Francis Mustafa saw his goal disallowed by the referee.
Rayon Sports are now on 36 points, three points ahead of defending champions APR who are playing against Bugesera today in Bugesera District.
Striker Camara and Kwizera missed clear chances to score more goals for the blues, thanks especially to Kiyovu’s goalkeeper Bonheur Hategekimana.
Kiyovu’s Jean Claude Nizeyimana and substitute Djuma Nizeyimana (on for Narcisse Ngabonziza) also missed golden opportunities for Aloyse Kanamugure’s side.
Elsewhere, AS Kigali will play against Espoir at Kigali Regional Stadium, Sunrise host Musanze in Nyagatare, Kirehe entertain Mukura at Kirehe turf, while Etincelles take on Amagaju at Umuganda Stadium.
On Sunday, Marines will host Police at Umuganda Stadium, while Pepiniere play against Gicumbi at Ruyenzi turf.
