White Clouds CC will face off against She-Guards in the 2017 six-team V.R NAIDU Family Twenty20 women cricket tournament today at Kicukiro cricket ground.
The two teams are in Pool B along with newly created Oasis Cricket Club, while Pool A has Queens of Victory, Indatwa CC (another new club) and defending champions Charity CC.
Veronic Iriho, who doubles as White Clouds captain and coach, said, "We have been together for quite some time, which helps us in terms of coordination because we all know each other’s strength and weaknesses.”
White Clouds have won the V.R NAIDU Family tourney twice, Computer Point T20 (twice) and one UAExchange and 50-overs Premier League title.
However, last season, the team’s performance did not match their high standards, ending with only one trophy in their trophy cabinet — the UAExchange Premier League.
Meanwhile, She-Guards captain Sarah Uwere said, "everyone looks at us as the underdogs but we’re prepared to surprise White Clouds.”
"We have been preparing well, not just for this particular game but the whole tournament, all our players are available and in good spirit,” she noted.
She-Guards have been participating in this tournament for the last three years but have never won it.
