As the 2007 national handball season nears its climax, the National Handball Federation, (Ferwahand) is set to convene this morning at Amahoro Stadium.

On top of the agenda is the beach handball tournament which is expected to wrap up this year’s local handball calendar.
According to the federation’s Secretary General Daniel Kwizera, the meeting is expected to attract all league club officials who will jointly brain storm on how best to make this year’s edition a success.

"The federation will plan for this year’s beach handball tournament and also look into other burning issues if any,” Kwizera said.

The tournament which was introduced last year in Gisenyi scored high and the federation believes that it can even be better this year.

In a related development, Gicumbi and G.S. St. Joseph are the official champions of the 2007 National handball league.

In a colorful prize giving ceremony, Gicumbi who were making their league debut edged out defending champions Kigali Institute of Education by two points to scoop the men’s honor while St. Joseph who had a mixed show last year defied history by winning the ladies’ honor.

The Gitarama based club outscored reigning champions Rwanda National University (UNR) by two points to put a horrible 2006 league show behind them.
