GASABO - The Ministry of Health together with other stakeholders in the health sector started an annual retreat on Saturday at Bambino super city in Gasabo. The retreat aims at reviewing the progress, highlighting constraints met and to jointly set future priorities.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, of the two-day retreat, the Minister of Health Dr Richard Sezibera underscored the significance of partnerships between various health institutions at all levels, as the only way through which their activities will positively impact on the health sector in a wider spectrum.

"There is need for all health institutions at all levels, to develop a joint working plan that will harmonise and coordinate all the activities,” he said.

Response to the presentations made by the various heads of health institutions, the minister expressed dissatisfactions about their manner of management, citing the head of Kigali central University Hospital (CHUK) who while giving a presentation at the function, declared that he fronted a strategic plan for revitalising the hospital operations, but could not establish the level it had reached.

"There should be adequate follow ups and coordination on the activities and issues concerning your respective institutions.” advised Sezibera.

When asked about the fate of CHUK following the recent decision by the cabinet to relocate it, the minister said they were still discussing where to relocate it.

"It is true the cabinet passed a decision to move CHUK to a more convenient and spacious place, but the issue is still under discussion, we haven’t gone into details of where to relocate it” said Sezibera.

Other issues discussed included the need to develop policies and guidelines to be followed by all medical practioners at all levels, establishing a clear staff development plan and putting up a reliable and working information system to connect operations in all the big hospitals.
