Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) Vice-President and the sole sponsor of V.R NAIDU T20 Cricket tournament, Srinath Vardhineni has expressed his delight at the way the game is growing in Rwanda and promised to continue to do whatever it takes to see the game grow further.
He made the remarks on Sunday while launching this year’s fourth edition of V.R NAIDU cricket tournament at Kicukiro Cricket Oval where Telegu Royals played Rightguard in the opening game.
The annual tournament that is solely supported by his family was started in 2013 in memory of his father, Vardhineni Ramaiah Naidu who was a cricket lover.
"I have seen how Telugu fought to beat Right guard in today’s game, the support around and the media coverage, all these manifest how far we have gone as far as developing Cricket in Rwanda is concerned,” he said.
This year, the tournament will feature nine men’s clubs and six female teams which are grouped into pools.
"Previously, we had only 4 women teams, but they are now six. Our international cricket stadium is underway which will further avail space for the game’s development after its completion,” said Srinath
He further noted; "We shall continue to support all initiatives that are geared towards the development of Cricket and V.R NAIDU cricket tournament will always be there every season.”
In the men’s category, Pool A consists of Telugu Royals, Kerala hunters, Impala Titans, and Right Guards while group B is composed of defending Champion Challengers, Vikings, Indorwa, as well as RCA development team.
In the Women’s category, Pool A is composed of Queens of victory, Indatwa and Charity while Pool B is comprised of She-guards, Oasis as well as white clouds.
