Riders set for final race of Rwanda Cycling Cup 2016

The final race of the 2016 Rwanda Cycling Cup is scheduled to take place today in Kigali with winners of the annual competition set to be announced and rewarded.

The final race of the 2016 Rwanda Cycling Cup is scheduled to take place today in Kigali with winners of the annual competition set to be announced and rewarded.

The race, which was earlier scheduled to be staged in December after the completion of the 2016 Tour of Rwanda was however; moved after the sudden death of the former Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) vice president Lambert Byemayire.

Rwanda Cycling Cup which comprises a total of 10 national races and covers most parts of the country, attracting riders from different local cycling clubs, is largely aimed at preparing Team Rwanda riders for international competitions.

The participating clubs include; Benediction Club, Les Amis Sportifs, Cine Elmay, Fly Cycling Club, Cycling Club for All and Kiramuruzi Cycling Team as well as the all-girls Inyemera Cycling Team from Gicumbi.

The male riders compete in three categories namely; juniors, U23 and Elites.

Today’s race will start from Bugesera district at Nemba through Nyamata town before heading to Kigali (Kicukiro) where they will continue to Sonatube en route Remera (Prince House) then turn towards Chez Lando Hotel before adding on a circuit.

The circuit will start from Chez Lando down to Hopital de la Croix du Sud heading to RDB where they will turn towards MTN Center in Nyarutarama and head to Kibagabaga on their way to Kimirinko and finish at Amahoro National Stadium.

In the men category, the Juniors will race two laps on top of the itinerary while the U23 and Elite will do five laps on top of the itinerary with the women to do only one lap of the circuit after the itinerary.
