I will be quite honest, I have always been a fan of KGL. If you are looking for fine dining, this is not the place. Their forte is fast food and KGL seems to be a firm favoUrite with Jumia food subscribers.

There was a time when the crowds were over flowing onto the streets, literally. KGL is one of the victims of the fickle crowd syndrome and with time the crowd thinned as new places opened their doors for business.

However, this is not a condemnation. KGL is still alive and chugging along quite well with Thursday nights being especially busy with the live band act.

The ardent football fan or any other sports fan can catch games on the weekend and during the week.

An adjacent bar compliments the restaurant and provides extra sitting in the event the dining area is full. A wide variety of alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages are available from both the bar and dining areas.

KGL to me seems to be stuck in a time warp but herein lies its true identity. It does not pretend to be a high-endoutlet; the prices are affordable. The dining area comprises of booths and a popcorn machine in the corner is evident and is a clear sign that KGL caters to all walks of life.

The food is good most of the time. A wide menu that includes open faced sandwiches, pasta, grilled nyamachoma, assorted salads, sea food and a kid’s corner, KGL strives to satisfy a wide variety of tastes. Perhaps the menu is too large and thus contributes to the few cases of inconsistency in the food production.

My personal favourite is the chicken mushroom pasta. It is one of those affordable meals that will fill you up and is quite tasty. In this meal lies some heritage. A connection to the glorious past that KGL once enjoyed and despite the crowd moving on, KGL remains ever present, just like this pasta dish.

On a regular day, the service is okay but tends to get overwhelmed on busier nights. It can take a while to get a waiter to attend to you and to get your order brought to your table requires a bit of patience.

On my regular visits, one thing I have noticed is that the patronage is dominated by a more mature demographic. The glory days might be gone but KGL still seems to appeal to those looking to have a quiet meal or just lounge at the bar with a few friends.

In my opinion, KGL does need to correct a few teething problems like the service and consistency with the food. The proximity of the external toilets to the bar has been seen as both a good and bad thing. This is always up for debate.

KGL advertises itself as a fast food outlet but goes beyond that albeit not in a very big way. Ample parking and ample sitting means one can actually spend a bit of time here to relax and partake of what is on offer without having to dash of.

So, if you are looking for a quick meal to take away or looking to sit down and unwind, KGL is able to provide the service you require.

The restaurant industry is one that requires innovation and keeping up with trends. It is also one that pays homage to tradition and KGL is more likely than not, sticking to its way.
