It will be a battle for supremacy when title contenders AS Kigali and Police FC face off today afternoon at Kicuciro grounds. Each side is hoping to finish the first round of the season on a high.

Separated by one point in third and fourth positions, respectively, hosts AS Kigali have 26 points, seven behind leaders Rayon Sports while defending champions APR FC are second with 30 points after 13 rounds of matches.

Eric Nshimiyimana’s AS Kigali will be seeking to return to winning ways after losing 1-2 against SC Kiyovu in their last outing. AS Kigali has so far won eight, drawn two, and lost three matches in the league.

"There are many teams in contention for the league title this season and we’re one of them, so our aim is to be ready for every game. We want to make good progress and we hope to end the season as high as we possibly can,” said Nshimiyimana.

The former Rwanda international added that, "We have to take positives from the loss against Kiyovu and try to avoid making similar mistakes in the next match.”

Police FC are coming off a goalless draw against fifth-placed Espoir, and head coach Innocent Seninga has warned his players to up their game if they are to get anything from Friday’s game.

The 2015 Peace Cup winners have won seven, drawn three and lost three in the league this season.

Seninga said, "We are looking forward to winning the next two games before the end of the league first round. Getting three points on Friday (today) is crucial in our bid to stay in the race.”

Action will continue on Saturday as the top two sides and perennial archrivals Rayon Sports and APR FC lock horns at Amahoro National Stadium while Espoir will host Sunrise FC in Rusizi, and Bugesera FC will play against Etincelles at Nyamata ground.
