In a bid to improve the game of cricket throughout the country, Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) has come up with a programme to train more local coaches.

The first beneficiaries included; Eric Ndangamyambi, Veronique Iriho, Jackson Nzayisenga, Laundry Rulangwa, Eric Dusabemungu, and Mary Maina.

The six represent six different zones that include; Kigali Zone which was represented by Dusabemungu, Kigali Zone 1 (Iriho), Kigali Zone 2 (Ndangamyambi), Northern Province (Rulangwa), Southern Province (Maina) and the Eastern Province which was represented by Nzayisenga.

"This training course is aimed enhancing professionalism in the sport,” said RCA general manager, Bridget Uwineza.

She added that, "For the game to flourish, we need to ensure professionalism through having a knowledgeable and experienced pool of coaches.”

The one-day training was carried out by former Uganda international cricket player and the current Rwanda national team head coach, Davis Turinawe, at Kicukiro cricket ground.

Rulangwa, who is the coach of Kinihira Cricket club and was named Coach of the Year last season said, "We learnt a lot of things as regards cricket as the gentleman’s game and our level of knowledge and professionalism in the game will definitely improve henceforth.”
