Genocide survivors in Rukumberi Sector, Ngoma District will now be able to live in habitable homes, thanks to Rwf45 million donation from Rwanda Revenue Authority to construct 25 houses and renovate others.

According to the revenue body Commissioner General, Richard Tusabe, the gesture seeks to ensure all Rwandans, particularly survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, lead better and rewarding lives. "We, therefore, need to work together to support fellow Rwandans who need our help,” he said. He added that RRA will continue supporting the survivors in the country "in any way possible”. Tusabe added that the support was in line with the government’s efforts geared toward healing wounds left behind by the Genocide. The governor for the Eastern Province, Judith Kazayire, commended RRA, saying their action demonstrated the "high level of unity and togetherness that Rwanda has attained”.

She called upon other institutions to continue supporting Genocide survivors. "Assisting Genocide survivors helps to eradicate trauma and promotes unity of Rwandans,” said Kazayire. Francois Birikunzira, one of the beneficiaries, said he had been living in a dilapidated house for several years.
