Kigali Sharks Rugby Football Club head coach Tharcisse Kamanda has vowed to revamp the team in a bid to return to winning ways and reclaim its past glory.

The Kacyiru-based team enjoyed trophy-laden years in the late 2000s, winning three national league titles and two Sharks 7 aside trophies.

But things have gone well for them in the last five years due to the dominance of, first, Remera Buffaloes and the recent emergency of Thousand Hills RFC, who are also the reigning league champions.

"We know very well the challenges ahead, but our ultimate objective for the upcoming season is to bring back the past glory that this club used to enjoy,” said Kamanda, who also doubles as Rwanda Rugby Federation (RRF) technical director.

He noted that, "Rwandan rugby has become more competitive in recent years than it was five years ago, when we only had Remera Buffaloes, Lion de Fer, Kamonyi Puma and Muhanga but today many more teams have been established and each team looks determined to challenge for trophies.”

Kigali Sharks have already entered the camp to start pre-season preparations for the 2017 season as they seek to win the league for the first time since 2013. The league is scheduled to start on January 21—Thousand Hills are the defending champions.
