Petit Stade in Remera was ablaze last Thursday. Youth from all parts of Kigali flocked to attend a music extravaganza organised by the Rwanda National Police. Although the occasion provided plenty of fun and great music, the main reason for congregating was a serious one.

The Police Force was launching its second campaign to sensitize the youth on harmful social activities such as prostitution, robbery and drug addiction.

Six local musicians thrilled the crowd for six hours starting from 2pm. The electrifying afternoon saw youth scream in delight and even fling their shoes in the air! After all the merry making, they settled down to listen to wise words of counsel.

Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Butera, who was the Guest of Honour, reminded the youth that they were the country’s future leaders and urged them to work hard and preserve their national and personal pride.

François Sebera Ruterana who represented Gasabo district added that it was vital for the grass roots levels to organize youth activities to keep them busy, especially during school holidays.

Music extravaganza

Top on the list of entertainers was Nagg. Clad in a black T-shirt with detail and faded blue jeans, he swung from the rafters and danced high above the stage to his famous hit "Kanyobwa”.

Hardly anyone could remain seated for this hot number. The maestro singer sent the crowds screaming and cheering for more.

Next on stage was the Kigali Boys Group (aka KGB). They kept the tempo high and the crowd excited. There was the closest substitute MC Fabb Lig. He somersaulted and tactically slid on floor to prove his dancing techniques.

Wearing blue denim jeans and white dancing shoes, MC Fabb Lig set a deafening holler: "Mikono ju…mikono ju!! (Put your hands up!), to which the crowd responded accordingly.

The teenager hip hop singer did the real thing of performing, as he ran around with the microphone singing. The act sent the thrilled crowd crazy. Screaming on top of their voices and jumping higher stretching their hands to reach the singer.

The sensational male hip hop sang his heart out thrilling a sea of attendants with more than two of his hits, including ‘Igendere’. The youth were smartly dressed, and of course the girls stole the evening with their chic dressing.

"I’m extremely happy this evening, because after months at school we have been entertained and got lessons from the National Police,” exclaimed 18 year old Jean Claude Habimana.
