Rwandan designer Sonia Mugabo has opened her second store at the Kigali Marriott Hotel.
The colourful launch event, held Thursday, was graced by her loyal customers, fellow designers, fans and family to witness the milestone in her business.
Mugabo, who opened her first store in Remera, said her vision is to have several stores in Rwanda, East Africa and Europe.
The new store will enable foreigners and guests visiting Kigali Marriott Hotel to access her clothing lines which are growing in popularity.
"Marriott being recognised globally and opening my store here, it only means I am going for good quality and putting myself at a global scale starting next year I plan to start exporting my creations,” Mugabo said.
The fashion icon said the collection in the new store is more exclusive and for, occasional wear making it different from her usual casual and every day wear.
Mugabo added that she has expanded her venture into men’s wear, beginning with shirts; a collection she launched this year and now has included it in her second clothing store.
"I have been doing more of women’s clothes since 2013. However, I’m more comfortable now to venture into men’s wear as I bring back the cultural look and also contemporary designs with modern fabrics and prints,” she said.
The opening of the new store falls well in line with the country’s promotion of locally-made products, Made-in-Rwanda.
