Christmas is arguably the most celebrated holiday of the year. And why shouldn’t it be? It is the day Christ was born. Many people celebrate the day with family; others opt for a holiday away from home, among other things.

Donah Mbabazi asked a few people about how they plan to spend the day;

Esperance Uwicyeza

Esperance Uwicyeza - Programmes Director of Tubarerere Mu Muryango at National Commission for Children:

I am a Catholic and that means my day will start off with attending mass. Later, we will all be home for the festivities, we won’t be travelling to the village but instead, will invite my parents to join us, some family members and friends will also be invited for the celebration. On Boxing Day, I have plans to celebrate my children’s baptism.

Sonia Kalibagiza

Sonia Kalibagiza - Communications Officer at Rwanda Military Hospital:

I will visit my family in Butare, we will go with the whole family, spend the day there and return in the evening when the celebrations are done. I am hoping Christmas will be a nice time for us to bond as a family.

Isabella Lydia Masozera

Isabella Lydia Masozera - Managing Director, Legacy Brands:

Christmas is a beautiful story of God’s son who became human. My beautiful five-year-old daughter is naturally my favourite company on such a special day. I want to get ‘gadget detox’ and be truly with her. I plan to spend it in the Gorilla Highlands region between Rwanda and Uganda. There is so much to do there, not just mountain gorilla trekking. I will bond with my loved ones while I enjoy different fun activities on and around Lake Bunyonyi.

Lillian Umwali

Lillian Umwali - Cashier at UAExchange:

I want to spend Christmas with my family in the countryside because it’s where the fun is and its way better than in the city, besides, it’s where the traditional way of celebrating this day still is and this makes the day even more flamboyant.

Fiona Kamikazi

Fiona Kamikazi - Talent advocate:

I am spending Christmas with my uncle who is disabled, I feel like Christmas is a day to spread love so showing my uncle that he is not alone and that he has family that wants to be with him on such a big day is all I want to do.

Allioni

Aline Uwamwezi aka Allioni - Musician:

On Christmas I have a show. I will perform at Riderman’s album launch, but before I leave for the performance, I will have a nice time with my family and though it won’t be long, I will compensate on New Year’s because I will be with them the whole time. As for my fans, I will give them something new for the New Year which is the video for my new song Amahirwe.
