Rose Kabuye arrived in France yesterday. That Rose is a feared fighter became more apparent upon her arrival in Paris. The seconds footage on the international media, of the heavy Paris convoy she was in, makes one wonder if this is the same Rose, the mother of three who voluntarily handed herself to the French authorities. Armoured vehicles, police cars, police bikes, all for our Rose. Mighty indeed, she is. Notwithstanding, that Rose filed her case in French courts 18 months ago, willing to plead her innocence, she has never received a response from the French. Making a weird parallel to the way she has been received, in the French capital.
The fact that the French put so much effort in portraying Rose, like some criminal they caught on the run, is significant of their guilt conscience at most and their failure to handle the true reality of what they have gotten themselves into. Now it is no longer about Rose, the woman who through their different mouthpieces they have sought to slander and defame.
It is now about the French coming forward with credible evidence to prove their case. One can predict immediately from their official pronouncements, upon her arrival, it is apparent they are not prepared for this case. An affirmation of the fact that they will be left with a bloody nose.
The French have pursued the indictments under the dangerous fallacy, that their political prejudice will win them a day in court. ‘It’s quite thin,’ a French journalist gave an insight into the strength of the French’s case against Rose.
Paris, yesterday, was officially a new war frontier, between Rose, representing her country, facing her aggressors, the French in a battle that will lay to the ghosts that have haunted Rwanda’s post-Genocide reconstruction and reconciliation efforts, once and for all.
What is heartening for Rose, in her battle, is that she is not alone, Rwanda, today, stood with her as thousands, across the world demonstrated in support of her cause.
Old, young, women, men, business executives, politicians, all stood, with Rose, she is certainly not alone, as she stands on the right side of history.
